Renée Zellweger's next career move has come into focus. The two-time Academy Award winner will headline a new feature from writer-director Julia Cox titled A Woman in the Sun, which brings together Sissy Spacek and Mia Threapleton in supporting roles.

Cox is penning and directing the project through a partnership with Black Bear Pictures, the same company behind Nyad, where she previously wrote the screenplay featuring Annette Bening and Jodie Foster.

The film centers on Claire Keating, a character to be embodied by Zellweger. Set on Nantucket, the narrative unfolds over the course of a single month as Claire navigates her work as a bartender within the island's shrinking middle class. When her mother falls ill and her daughter returns home, Claire's carefully constructed existence unravels, compelling her to confront her past and chart a new course forward.

Zellweger has maintained a selective approach to her recent work, appearing in a recurring capacity on Only Murders in the Building and returning for a fourth installment of the Bridget Jones franchise the previous year.

Filming is slated to commence in September, with the project expected to make waves at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, where Black Bear will present the film to worldwide distributors.

"Championing promising filmmakers like Julia has been central to Big Picture Co.'s mission since day one, and we're thrilled to be part of this very special project and the team who will help realize Julia's vision. The script is a storytelling treasure, and Julia's instincts set her apart as an emerging filmmaker. We can't wait to get started," Zellweger shared in a statement.
