Robby Hoffman Opens Up About Her Reaction to Losing Emmy to 'Hacks' Co-Star Julianne Nicholson

Robby Hoffman has opened up about her disappointment following the 2025 Creative Arts Emmys, where she and Julianne Nicholson both competed in the same category for their work on HBO's Hacks.

Speaking on Trixie Mattel's "Bald and the Beautiful" podcast, Hoffman admitted she entered the evening with high expectations. "I was the biggest sore loser," she confessed. "I lose immediately. We're the first award up. I immediately lost, and we woke up with all the gusto in the world."

The actress recalled the moment the winner was announced. Arriving at the ceremony with her sister, Hoffman said her sibling's reaction was swift and direct. "We're beyond surprised to lose. I walk in, I'm already like, 'Where am I going to put the Emmy?' We lose immediately, my sister goes, 'We don't need this s–t,' and pushes me out. She grabs me by the arm. 'We're leaving this s–t,'" Hoffman recounted.

However, her exit plan hit a snag. Hoffman had committed to presenting an award during the broadcast. "I had to present cinematography. I said, 'Nah, I don't want to do that anymore.' They said, 'No, it's part of the program!'" she explained. "I was like, well, my circumstances changed. My circumstances have changed! I'm not in the mood, and they want me to read whatever's on this teleprompter."

Despite her initial frustration, Hoffman ultimately acknowledged Nicholson's victory was deserved. "We can't say anything is rigged. I like to defer blame for a long time before I go, 'Rob, did someone do better than you?' All fair," she said, describing her co-star's performance as "amazing" and noting she "beyond" merited the win.

In Hacks, Nicholson plays Dance Mom, a TikTok sensation, while Hoffman portrays Randi, an assistant at the talent agency run by the show's lead characters.
