Russell Brand Weighs In on Katy Perry's Romance with Justin Trudeau
Russell Brand has offered his perspective on his ex-wife Katy Perry's romantic involvement with Justin Trudeau, the former Canadian prime minister.
During a recent appearance on the Megyn Kelly Show, the 50-year-old actor and podcast host fielded questions about Perry's dating life. "I've put up with a lot with that ex-wife of mine, but you took it too far, KP," Brand remarked.
The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star then pivoted to praise Perry's previous partner, actor Orlando Bloom, who portrayed Legolas in The Lord of the Rings films. "Legolas! I love that guy!" Brand exclaimed, even mimicking the character's signature bow-and-arrow pose.
Brand's commentary on Trudeau took a sharper turn. He referred to the politician as "Fidel Castro's spawn" and objected to his invocation of the Emergencies Act in 2022, which enabled authorities to disperse the "Freedom Convoy" — a series of protests led by truck drivers blocking Canadian border crossings in opposition to COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
The Under the Skin podcast host also characterized Trudeau as "ultra woke" and expressed broader concerns about charismatic political figures. "I specifically don't like what is typified by those good-looking politicians — Obama, Macron, Blair — they're sort of good-looking and they're charming. But you think… who do you work for, really? Who's running this? Because it can't be you," Brand stated.
When asked about the potential trajectory of Perry and Trudeau's relationship, Brand remained optimistic about a change of heart. "Keep checking. She could come to her senses any minute," he said.
Brand has previously voiced similar reservations about the couple's relationship, having commented on the matter in December as well.
