Sam Smith and Christian Cowan Get Engaged

Sam Smith and Christian Cowan are heading down the aisle. The 33-year-old recording artist and 32-year-old fashion designer have recently become engaged, according to reports.

The couple's engagement news surfaced after they attended the 2026 Met Gala on Monday, May 4. Sources say Smith and Cowan were overheard discussing their engagement as they departed the Mark Hotel prior to the event.

"From what I understand, it was a private engagement. They are over the moon, and from what I hear, so in love!" an onlooker shared with Page Six.

While Smith did not display a ring at the Met Gala, Cowan was photographed wearing what appears to be an engagement ring on his left ring finger. The piece is reportedly a Cartier design featuring a square-cut yellow diamond set on a gold band.

Smith and Cowan's relationship spans more than three years. The pair first fueled dating speculation in January 2023 when they were photographed strolling through New York City with linked arms, and Smith was seen kissing the top of Cowan's head during the outing.

Over the past three years, the couple has made multiple public appearances together, including attending the Met Gala annually. Smith has also sat in the front row at several of Cowan's New York Fashion Week presentations since 2023.

As of now, neither Smith nor Cowan has released a public statement regarding their engagement.
