Sarah Snook Set to Lead 'The Birds' Limited Series With Modern Reimagining

Sarah Snook is taking on the lead role in an upcoming limited series inspired by the classic Hitchcock film The Birds, bringing a distinctly modern perspective to the iconic story.
The award-winning Succession actor will portray Myra Massey, a traveling magistrate navigating a present-day reimagining of the material. In this new version, Myra returns to her isolated Alaskan hometown to oversee what she expects to be a straightforward presumptive death hearing. What unfolds instead is far more sinister—she discovers her childhood friend's body riddled with bullet wounds.
As Myra steps beyond her judicial duties to investigate, the natural world becomes a terrifying adversary. A series of bird attacks transforms her quest to solve the case into a fight for survival, as danger emerges from both concealment and the skies above.
The project remains in the shopping phase, with no network or streaming platform currently attached. Heyday Television's Sue Gibbs previously emphasized that the series draws inspiration from Daphne du Maurier's original novella rather than serving as a direct film adaptation.
"We're going back to the source material, the Daphne du Maurier novella and using that as inspiration," Gibbs explained. "And at its heart, it's looking at when nature turns on you. Obviously, with climate change that is very timely."
Snook continues building on her acclaimed television career, with recent work currently in contention for major industry honors.
