Savannah Guthrie to Front NBC's Wordle Game Show

The Today show became ground zero for a major announcement on Monday, May 11, when Savannah Guthrie and Jimmy Fallon revealed plans for a Wordle game show headed to NBC.
"This is very exciting, I have a big announcement to make. We've been developing Wordle as a game show for the past two-and-a-half years with The New York Times, and it's official: we are making Wordle Game Show with our host, Savannah Guthrie!" Jimmy said on air.
Guthrie, who has been keeping the project under wraps with her co-host, confirmed the news: "We've been holding this secret between us for a long time now. And we're going to make Wordle a game show."
The competition format asks contestants to crack five-letter word puzzles in what's been described as a supersized contest of intelligence, quickness, and entertainment value. The show draws inspiration from how Wordle enthusiasts engage with the puzzle daily—solving as a community, celebrating successes, discussing tactics, and encouraging each other. That collaborative spirit translates to the televised version, where the game's most devoted and driven players will form teams and compete against one another in the Wordle arena for significant cash rewards.
The program is slated to premiere on NBC in 2027. Guthrie is known to be an enthusiastic Wordle player herself. The daily puzzle remains accessible through the New York Times website and the NYT games app.
