Scott Baio Rejects Nicole Eggert's Allegations, Claims "Conspiracy" Behind Accusations
Scott Baio is standing by his denial of sexual abuse allegations brought by his former Charles in Charge co-star Nicole Eggert.
During an appearance on Arroyo Grande's podcast this week, the 65-year-old Happy Days actor addressed the accusations when the host raised the topic. Baio referenced his previous statements about taking polygraph tests, noting he has said he passed five separate examinations.
The Chachi actor attributed the allegations to what he describes as a "conspiracy" orchestrated by individuals opposed to his potential political ambitions following his appearance at the Republican National Convention in July 2016.
"I think it was money. I have on good authority it was money," Baio explained, claiming he learned this detail from someone "who was at the table when this conspiracy was being hatched."
He further asserted that he has accumulated "video, audio, print" evidence demonstrating contradictions in the account against him. "But nobody cares about that, they care about the salacious comment or the salacious accusation," the Bugsy Malone star stated.
When asked about his current feelings toward Eggert, Baio expressed harsh sentiments. "I hope she's miserable because what she did to me and my family was unconscionable," he said.
Eggert detailed her allegations during an appearance on NBC's Today show in early 2018. She claimed Baio sexually abused her on more than 10 occasions beginning when she was 14 years old and he was 26, spanning their time together on Charles in Charge, which ran from 1984 to 1990. She filed a police report, though no charges were filed.
The allegations against Baio extended beyond Eggert. Alexander Polinsky, who played Adam Powell on the series, also came forward with accusations. Polinsky alleged that Baio made homophobic remarks, created a hostile workplace atmosphere, and engaged in verbal abuse, mental abuse, and physical assault—including pulling down his pants and throwing hot tea at him. Polinsky additionally stated he "witnessed Scott Baio acting inappropriately towards Nicole Eggert" during his initial year on the show.
Baio has categorically denied all allegations from both Eggert and Polinsky.
