Selena Gomez and Cate Blanchett Team Up for Brady Corbet's Ambitious New Film

Selena Gomez and Cate Blanchett are joining forces for a new project helmed by filmmaker Brady Corbet.
The 33-year-old Emmy-nominated performer and the 57-year-old Academy Award winner have been cast in Corbet's forthcoming film, as reported by Variety. Blanchett confirmed the collaboration during remarks at a masterclass at the Cannes Film Festival this past weekend.
Michael Fassbender also rounds out the cast. The InSneider had previously announced Gomez's involvement in the production.
Details about the film remain sparse, though Corbet has shared some insight into his vision. He described wanting to create an "x-rated" film set during the 1970s, while noting that the narrative spans from the 19th century through contemporary times with significant focus on that particular decade.
"The film is really, really genre-defying," Corbet told THR, per Variety.
The production is notably being shot using eight-perf 65mm cameras, an exceptionally rare format. During remarks at the Dublin Storyhouse screenwriting festival last month, Corbet revealed the screenplay runs 200 pages—substantially longer than his previous effort. His last feature, The Brutalist, measured 165 pages and ran three and a half hours.
Corbet has characterized the project as exploring "American mysticism and the history of the occult in America." He noted his extensive research into the movement and evolution of cultist belief systems across the country. "I've started working with this fascinating guy called Mitch Horowitz, who is an occultist historian of America," Corbet shared, per Deadline.
In other news, Gomez recently completed filming on the four-part finale event for Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, where she will make her directorial debut.
