Stassi Schroeder Opens Up About Years-Long Rift With Katie Maloney, Details Friendship Repair
Stassi Schroeder is discussing a significant chapter in her friendship with Katie Maloney that had remained largely under the radar.
The Vanderpump Rules stars, now 37 and 40 respectively, have experienced their share of turbulence over the years, though things appeared to be on solid ground in recent times—Stassi even designated Katie as godmother to her 5-year-old daughter Hartford. But in a recent conversation with Marie Claire, Schroeder disclosed that the two had actually been estranged for an extended period without public knowledge.
"Now we're rebuilding our friendship after growing in two completely different directions," Schroeder told the publication.
The reality television personality noted that her upcoming series House of Stassi, which will feature Maloney, will explore these friendship dynamics in greater depth. She expressed interest in showcasing narratives often absent from television.
"I don't see TV shows out there that explore how when you get to a certain age and you all choose different paths in life, how that affects your friendships and then how you come back together," she explained.
In the same interview, Schroeder suggested viewers will encounter a different version of herself compared to her earlier public persona. She reflected on her evolution, noting that her approach to life has shifted considerably.
"The last time people saw me, I was this crazy girl…crashing out, dark passengering," she said. "I work really hard. I try really hard and I'm constantly trying to build the most for my family, and I'm proud of what I've done in the last five years."
"I still crash out," Schroeder continued. "It just looks different."
The conversation also touched on her departure from Vanderpump Rules in 2020, when past racist remarks she had made about former castmate Faith Stowers—the show's only Black cast member at that time—surfaced publicly. Schroeder acknowledged the lasting impact of that moment on her personal journey.
"There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about the canceling," she shared. "I will live with this for the rest of my life."
She further reflected on how her time away from the reality television spotlight has contributed to her personal transformation. "If I were still in Vanderpump Rules, I'd probably be the same person," she said. "This time away from reality TV has shaped who I am now."
House of Stassi launches on Hulu on July 29.
