Barack Obama Set to Appear on Stephen Colbert's Late Show Before Final Episode

April 23, 2026

Stephen Colbert is bringing in a heavyweight guest as his late-night talk show winds down. The host announced this week that former President Barack Obama will sit down with him for an interview on the May 6 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

During an on-air announcement, Colbert revealed the details of the upcoming appearance. "Folks before we get started, I have a quick but exciting announcement. Tuesday May 5 here on The Late Show in his first interview from the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, I will be sitting down with former President Barack Obama," he said.

The interview marks a significant booking for the show's final chapter, which concludes on May 21. Colbert shared the news across social media, posting the announcement alongside the official Obama Foundation account, which responded with enthusiasm: "Couch booked. Volume up. Ready to go."

This won't be Colbert's first time interviewing the former president. He previously sat down with Obama during his Comedy Central tenure, as well as on two separate occasions on CBS—once in 2016 and again in 2020.

Beyond his Late Show appearance, Obama has other media projects in the works. His production company with former First Lady Michelle Obama is transitioning to independence this year following the conclusion of their Netflix partnership. The former president is also slated to guest star on an upcoming HBO series from Larry David.
