Tana Mongeau has weighed in on James Charles' recent controversy involving a former Spirit Airlines employee and a GoFundMe request. Both influencers are 27 years old.

The incident began when Charles called the ex-Spirit Airlines worker "lazy" for asking him to contribute to her GoFundMe campaign. Charles has since issued multiple apologies and launched a charitable initiative through his company, Painted.

On a new podcast episode, Mongeau opened up about her decision to address the situation. "I debated this very, very heavily," she explained, noting that while many have already commented on the scandal, she felt compelled to share her perspective. "I am so deeply passionate about this conversation."

Mongeau traced her views back to her childhood and family's financial struggles. She described how money—or the lack thereof—created significant tension in her household, with her mother's stress and her father's emphasis on accumulating wealth at any cost shaping her worldview.

The influencer argued that content creators have an obligation to their audiences. "I do personally feel like us as influencers do owe our money to the people," she stated. She highlighted the fundamental difference between online creators and traditional celebrities: influencers' income comes directly from their audience's personal connection to them.

"Our pay, our exorbitant amount of wealth comes directly from the working class feeling a connection to us," Mongeau said. "Why wouldn't we give back to them?"

She also pointed out that Charles benefits from highly profitable AdSense revenue, placing him in the top tier of earners on that platform. She noted that the timing made the situation particularly striking, as Charles had recently posted on TikTok seeking a new employee.

Mongeau was particularly critical of the tone Charles used in his now-deleted TikTok video. She described his demeanor as mean-spirited, commenting on how he mocked the person while wearing a luxurious bathrobe. "It is shocking to me that there are people with that much hoarded wealth that see that and their first thought is not 'I can help,'" she reflected.

She emphasized the difficulty of asking for financial assistance and noted that $1,500 represents a negligible amount to someone in Charles' financial position. "It never feels good to have to ask someone for money," Mongeau said.

The podcast episode, which features the James Charles discussion starting around the 33-minute mark, will generate profits that Mongeau has pledged to donate to the former Spirit Airlines employees through their GoFundMe campaign.
