Taylor Swift Speaks Out on Friendship With Jack Antonoff Following Collaboration Speculation
Taylor Swift is setting the record straight regarding her bond with longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff.
The 36-year-old artist and the 42-year-old musician and producer have built an extensive creative history together, earning multiple Grammy Awards along the way. With Antonoff absent as a producer on her latest project, questions have surfaced about the state of their relationship.
In a recent conversation with The New York Times, Swift moved to clarify their standing. "Jack Antonoff is a collaborator of mine and one of my best friends," she stated directly.
The conversation turned to the pair's distinctive songwriting approach. Swift explained their signature technique, which they've dubbed the "rant bridge." She described it as "basically like stream of consciousness, endless pouring-out of emotion, intrusive thoughts, blended with metaphor, with discussion, with shouting."
When discussing what makes an effective "rant bridge," Swift elaborated on their creative goals. "You want this rant bridge to feel the most intense of what that feeling is that you're trying to establish over the course of the song, and you want it to be kind of a crescendo," she noted.
The pair's collaborations span years of Swift's career. Their work together began with "Sweeter Than Fiction" for the One Chance soundtrack, and has since extended across albums including 1989, Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights, and The Tortured Poets Department. They've also reunited for the Taylor's Versions of Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and 1989. Additionally, the two worked on Swift's collaboration with Zayn Malik, "I Don't Wanna Live Forever," which appeared on the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack.
For her most recent project, The Last of a Showgirl, Swift reunited with Max Martin and Shellback, producers she worked extensively with on Reputation.
The pair were recently spotted having dinner together in New York City with a group of friends.
