Taylor Swift Celebrates Sombr's Vulnerable Songwriting, Highlights Double Standard in Confessional Lyrics

April 27, 2026

Taylor Swift is weighing in on what draws her to sombr's artistry, particularly his unflinching approach to songwriting.

The two have been spotted together on various occasions, but Swift recently elaborated on her admiration for his work during a sit-down with The New York Times Magazine. The conversation took place following Swift's selection as one of 30 Greatest Living American Songwriters.

"I'm a massive sombr fan, of his songwriting," Swift shared. "And his lyrics are so intensely confessional. 'I don't want another man's child to have the eyes of the girl I can't forget.' Are you kidding me?"

Swift went on to discuss how sombr's willingness to embrace vulnerability in his music carries broader implications for female artists. "Having a male artist say stuff like that is really good for the cause of women to be able to say stuff," she explained. "If there's any way we can make confessional songwriting a little bit more of something that isn't, like, people take that as like you were being messy. You have to be fair to everyone then."

Her remarks suggest that when male musicians openly share personal and emotional material, it helps establish confessional songwriting as a legitimate artistic approach rather than something dismissed as unprofessional. This normalization, Swift indicates, could help level the playing field for women artists who have historically faced criticism for similar vulnerability in their work.
