Taylor Swift Opens Up About How Travis Kelce Inspired 'Elizabeth Taylor' Track
Taylor Swift is discussing the creative spark behind her latest single "Elizabeth Taylor."
The 36-year-old artist recently opened up to The New York Times about how the track from her album The Life of a Showgirl came to life, crediting an unexpected moment with her fiancé Travis Kelce.
"There are so many different ways that a song begins in my world," Swift explained before diving into the story. The inspiration struck during a car ride when she found herself passionately discussing why the legendary actress captivated her. "I'm riding in the car with Travis," she recalled. "I go on and on in explaining to Travis, like, why I love Elizabeth Taylor so much. She fought for artists' rights. She was exploited in so many ways, and yet she kept her humanity. She kept her humor. She kept her passion for life.' I was just going on and on."
As the conversation continued, Swift's focus turned to another detail about Taylor. "I was like, 'Her eyes were violet. Some people said they were blue. Some people said they were violet. I think they were violet.' We get home. He gets out of the car and I'm just in my head just this intrusive melody…. And I'm just scrambling to open my record app on my phone."
The creative process didn't stop there. Swift took an additional step by reaching out to Elizabeth Taylor's estate to request permission for the song. She described her interactions with them as "lovely."
Earlier this month, Elizabeth Taylor's estate responded to Swift's new music for the track. The 34-time Grammy winner had previously shared more details about what inspired the song last fall.
