Teddi Mellencamp Sought Doctor's Approval for Weight-Loss Medication During Cancer Treatment
Teddi Mellencamp has opened up about a candid exchange with her physician regarding weight management during her stage 4 cancer battle.
On a recent episode of her Two Ts in a Pod podcast, the 44-year-old former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member disclosed that she inquired whether she could begin taking a GLP-1 medication to address weight gain she experienced as a side effect of her cancer treatment.
"I am a health and wellness coach who's dying of cancer," Mellencamp said lightheartedly. "And because I gained weight from the steroids [from my treatment], because I'm getting bigger from the steroids, I asked my doctor if I could please have GLP-1s. And he was like, 'No!'"
Her co-host Tamra Judge, 58, responded with skepticism about the doctor's refusal, suggesting alternative avenues might be available.
"I'm so sorry someone told you no," Judge said, "but I don't know that I'd listen!"
Mellencamp acknowledged she had connections to obtain the medication through other channels. "I mean, I know people where I could get it," she noted. "I have friends that do it."
Judge then offered her own support, saying, "Well, I'm taking it tomorrow if you wanna start with me."
Mellencamp elaborated on her frustration with the medical guidance she received. "Let me live," she expressed. "You tell me to live my best life, but I don't even get… Live your best life? Where are my GLP-1s?"
Judge speculated that the doctor's unwillingness to prescribe the medication might actually signal optimism about Mellencamp's prognosis. "I think maybe someone's lying," the Real Housewives of Orange County star suggested. "I don't think you're dying. Because [if you were dying,] he would've said, 'Oh, if that's what you want, sure! Take that, go do some coke, go snort whatever you want!'"
The podcast conversation comes as Mellencamp has recently discussed her personal life on the show, including details about dating an older man.
