Devil Wears Prada 2: Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt Secured Equal Pay With Rare Salary Deal

The three leading ladies of The Devil Wears Prada 2 negotiated a rare salary arrangement that kept their paychecks level across the board.
Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt each received $12.5 million for the film, according to Variety. The arrangement, known as a "favored nations" deal, requires all participating actors to accept identical compensation from the studio. Industry observers had anticipated Streep would command the highest salary, making this outcome somewhat unexpected.
The actresses' eight-figure compensation proved to be a sound investment for the studio. The sequel has already generated more than $250 million globally during its first week in theaters.
The salaries represent just a portion of what the three stars could ultimately earn. Variety reports that box office performance bonuses are factored into their contracts separately. Should current box office momentum continue, each actress could see her total earnings exceed $20 million.
The production carried a $100 million budget overall, with the three leads' combined $37.5 million in salaries consuming more than one-third of that figure. The original film, by comparison, operated on a $35 million budget—less than what the leads alone earned for the sequel.
