The Devil Wears Prada 2 has just arrived on screens, and conversations about a potential third film are already underway.

Given that two decades elapsed between the original and its sequel, the ensemble cast has made clear that such a lengthy gap cannot happen again. Meryl Streep, who is approaching 77 years old, and Stanley Tucci, currently 65, would reach 97 and 85 respectively by the time a third movie could arrive if another 20-year wait occurred.

The stars have been candid about their thoughts on continuing the franchise. Streep expressed her hope to Entertainment Weekly, saying, "I hope they don't wait 20 years!"

Tucci echoed similar sentiments to the same outlet, remarking, "I don't think we can do it in another 20 years. We have to do it sooner than that, because I'll be dead." He added a lighthearted quip, suggesting a third installment after another two decades would only be feasible "if they exhume us" from a cemetery.

Emily Blunt acknowledged the franchise's approach to pacing between releases, noting, "We believe in letting a lot of time sizzle between these movies." However, she expressed interest in expanding her scenes with Stanley Tucci, her real-life brother-in-law, as the two didn't share substantial screen time in the sequel. "We love what we got to do, but we didn't get enough to do together," she shared.

Anne Hathaway took a more measured stance, pointing out that any greenlight for a third film would depend on Disney's assessment of the box office performance. Early opening day numbers suggest strong commercial prospects. "I hope so, I feel like there's more road to explore. But, we'll probably have a better idea of that [when the film comes out]," she told Entertainment Weekly.

Director David Frankel, who returned for the sequel, similarly cautioned against premature commitments. Speaking with EW, he said, "Let's see what happens. It's show business. It's anybody's guess. We said no 20 years ago, and here we are. I don't want to say yes now. They are very rich characters, they're amazing actors, there's great screenwriting, so I could imagine that these characters might live on."
