ABC Orders 'The Rookie: North' to Series With Jay Ellis Leading New Spinoff

ABC has given a series order to The Rookie: North, marking the latest expansion of the long-running police procedural franchise.

The new drama centers on Alex Holland, a man who discovers unexpected purpose following a violent home invasion that prompts him to abandon his pattern of unfinished endeavors. Seeking redemption, Holland enlists with the Pierce County Police Department as a rookie officer, navigating the challenges of law enforcement across diverse terrain—from bustling urban waterfront communities to remote forest regions where immediate backup is a luxury. Facing doubt from his training officer, fellow rookies, and himself, Holland must demonstrate his commitment to this new chapter.

Jay Ellis carries the series in the lead role. The supporting ensemble includes Janet Montgomery, Karen Fukuhara, Chris Sullivan, Froy Gutierrez, Mya Lowe, and Malik Watson.

Behind the scenes, creator Alexi Hawley serves as executive producer and writer. Nathan Fillion, the original franchise's lead, joins as an executive producer, while Ellis also takes on a producing credit.

ABC plans to unveil its complete fall 2026-27 schedule today.
