The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie Production Underway; Producers Urge Fans to Respect Set Boundaries

Production has officially begun on The Summer I Turned Pretty movie, bringing the beloved story to the big screen. Footage of the film's stars—including Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno—has already made its way onto social media as work gets underway.
Yet behind the scenes, the project's creative team is sounding the alarm. Both creator and writer Jenny Han and the show's official social media accounts have issued public requests asking fans to refrain from sharing set locations or attempting to visit the production in person.
The official Instagram account for The Summer I Turned Pretty emphasized how such activity interferes with the filmmaking process. "We love the excitement, but sharing locations and visiting set disrupts filming and creates real safety concerns for our cast and crew," the statement read. "We're working hard to create a protected bubble to make the best movie possible. Please help us protect the magic of Cousins until it's ready to be shared."
Han reinforced the message on her own social channels, detailing the specific ways unauthorized visits impact the production. When crowds gather on set and record footage, it prevents actors from fully concentrating on their performances and triggers stress among cast members. The production team frequently must pause work to clear bystanders from scenes, disrupting the crew's workflow and momentum. "This story means a lot to me, and I know it means a lot to you, too," Han wrote. "I want to give you the best version of this movie. Please help protect our process."
The film project was officially announced in September 2025, following the release of the season three finale of the Prime Video series.
