The View Panel Questions Sincerity of Tucker Carlson's Public Apology

April 20, 2026

The View cohosts are taking a critical stance toward Tucker Carlson's recent public apology regarding his years of support for President Donald Trump.

During a Monday episode of his show, Carlson sat down with his brother Buckley Carlson, a former Trump speechwriter, to discuss their previous backing of the president. The far-right commentator acknowledged that anyone who supported Trump bears responsibility for current circumstances.

"It's not enough to say, 'Well, I changed my mind' or, 'This is bad, I'm out.' It's very small ways, but in real ways, you and me and millions of people like us are the reason this is happening right now," Carlson stated during the segment.

He went on to express remorse for his role in promoting the former president. "I do think it's a moment to wrestle with our own consciences. We'll be tormented by it for a long time. I will be. And I want to say I'm sorry for misleading people. It was not intentional," he said.

When The View addressed the apology on their program, moderator Whoopi Goldberg framed the moment as Carlson losing a major supporter amid tensions over Iran policy.

Panelist Sunny Hostin was unconvinced by the commentary's sincerity. "Whatever. I don't believe him. He's not getting a bear hug from me. The world's on fire, and you can't just say, 'Oopsies!'" she remarked.

Joy Behar suggested Carlson may be experiencing "liar's remorse," pointing to his track record of false claims. "He's lied about everything, so he needs to make a list of all the things he got wrong, not just, 'Sorry!'" Behar said.

Sara Haines characterized Carlson as a grifter motivated by financial gain and audience engagement. Former White House staffer Alyssa Farah Gaines echoed similar concerns, stating she doubts Carlson is making "a true about-face."

Behar concluded by suggesting Carlson has a "pathological need for relevancy," framing his apology as another attempt to maintain his public profile.
