Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat are joining forces for a new comedy from NEON. The trailer for "The Wrong Girls" dropped Tuesday, July 7, marking the feature directorial debut of Dylan Meyer, who is also the film's writer and Stewart's wife.

Stewart and Shawkat play Frankie and Molly, best friends whose lives take an unexpected turn when a mix-up lands them a briefcase full of experimental psychedelic vials. The film follows these pot-loving companions as they navigate the chaos that ensues.

In describing the project, Stewart previously stated: "It's a stoner girl comedy, and it's really f—ing stupid. I think you'll like it."

Meyer expanded on the premise, explaining that Frankie and Molly are "codependent boneheads who have spent the last 10 years blissfully in a fog of weed smoke, co-signing each others' bad choices and screening adulthood's increasingly insistent calls. Just as Molly's boyfriend asks her to move in with him, Frankie is mistakenly given a briefcase full of glowing vials of an experimental psychedelic."

The supporting cast is stacked with recognizable names. LaKeith Stanfield plays NotMetalHeadDave, an action-for-hire character who gives the girls the briefcase. Zack Fox appears as Josh, Molly's boyfriend, while Tony Hale takes on the role of a "douchey real estate developer." Kate McKinnon portrays Dr. Olsen, the Danish scientist behind the drugs, and Geena Davis plays her partner in both life and science. Seth Rogen and Kumail Nanjiani lend their voices as Frankie and Molly's judgmental talking cats.

The film arrives in theaters on August 14.

Meyer shared her inspiration for the project with Entertainment Weekly, revealing that "The Wrong Girls was born from my relationship with my best friend and producing partner Maggie McLean, the babe I couldn't do anything without. It's a love letter to wayward chaotic women and the essential platonic partnerships that prop them up. The Wrong Girls may feature giant squids, Danish hitmen, talking cats, and supernatural abilities, but the emotional story and stakes are pure memoir."
