Ticketmaster fans have long complained about the company's queue system, and recent comments from leadership have amplified those grievances significantly.

For highly sought-after concert sales, Ticketmaster operates a waiting room that opens 30 minutes before tickets go live. Once the sale begins, fans receive a queue position, with lower numbers gaining priority access to purchase tickets.

During Olivia Rodrigo's recent concert ticket release, the disparity in queue placements became especially apparent. Some fans found themselves with over 200,000 people ahead of them in the queue, while others reported bypassing the wait entirely. This inconsistency prompted questions about how the system actually functions.

For years, most fans believed Ticketmaster assigned queue positions randomly, ensuring fair treatment for everyone who entered the waiting room before the sale started. Saumil Mehta, Ticketmaster's global president, recently disputed this assumption.

"I don't know where this notion that queue positions are random came from. I have never said it, and I have asked internally and cannot find it written in help content etc," Mehta stated in a response on X/Twitter.

The statement proved controversial partly because Ticketmaster's official Twitter account previously promoted a different message. The account once posted: "The 'Virtual Waiting Room' randomly assigns you a place in the queue and allows the purchase of tickets to be as fair as possible and provides protection against bots. Don't refresh or you will lose your place."

Fans have begun sharing observations that suggest patterns in queue assignments. Several reported that their own accounts consistently receive poor queue positions while spouse or family member accounts get significantly better spots. One fan described how her husband's account regularly receives excellent queue numbers, and he subsequently transfers all purchased tickets to her account.

This pattern has led some fans to theorize that Ticketmaster may prioritize accounts showing ticket transfer activity, potentially favoring accounts involved in resale over first-time buyers. The theory remains unverified.

On social media, one user wrote: "the reason i saw taylor and am seeing harry/olivia multiple times is my husbands ticketmaster account. he always get queue numbers below 2k, often in the hundreds. the most notable activity on his account? the fact he transfers out EVERY TICKET HE BUYS. tbh all his ticketmaster activity reads as a bot. and he is constantly rewarded in the queue."

The president's comments have generated substantial backlash across social media platforms as fans express frustration over the lack of transparency surrounding queue mechanics.
