Tracee Ellis Ross Clears Up Pregnancy Speculation During Late-Night Appearance

A false social media post sparked speculation over the weekend that the 53-year-old Emmy-nominated actress was expecting, but Tracee Ellis Ross wasted no time putting the rumors to rest.

The Black-ish star appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, June 23, to promote her upcoming Broadway debut in Every Brilliant Thing. During the interview, she addressed the pregnancy chatter head-on, explaining how she first learned about the unfounded claims.

"I don't have social media on my phone right now, and I kept getting texts, and people were like, 'Congratulations.' I'm like, 'On the play? Thank you!'" she told host Jimmy Fallon as the audience erupted in laughter.

Ross elaborated on how widespread the false information had become. "Well, apparently, it's swirling around, and it seems that people think I'm pregnant," she said. "Which is hilarious. I am not pregnant."

The actress then touched on the nature of online rumors, noting the distinction between factual and fabricated pregnancy claims. "No, and I don't know how you get the preggers," she added with a laugh. "Now, 'the pregnant' I think is different from just pregnant. I know how you get pregnant. But 'the pregnant' is a thing they make up online when it's obviously a slow news day."

Ross has long been vocal about her perspective on major life milestones, particularly motherhood and marriage. In a 2021 Marie Claire interview, she spoke candidly about rejecting societal expectations to prioritize family planning. "Our society spoon-feeds it to you. I used to put myself to sleep dreaming of my wedding," she reflected at the time.

"And I would still love all of that, but what am I going to do, just sit around waiting? Shut up. I've got so many things to do," she continued, emphasizing her focus on her career and personal ambitions.
