Trump Claims Three Presidential Terms While Touting Cognitive Test Results

The 79-year-old president made eyebrow-raising assertions while promoting the use of cognitive examinations for political candidates.
On Thursday, April 30, Trump posted to Truth Social with a proposal regarding future presidential races. In his message, he suggested he had served three terms in office—a claim that stands at odds with the two-term limit established by the 22nd Amendment.
"Anybody running for President or Vice President should be forced to take a Cognitive Examination prior to entering the Race!" Trump wrote. He then invoked former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden in his statement, saying the country would benefit from such a requirement.
Trump went on to assert he had completed the examination during his time in office. "I took the Exam three times during my ('THREE!') Terms as President, and ACED IT ALL THREE TIMES — An Achievement that, even on a single Exam, according to the Doctors, has rarely been done before!"
The president has made similar claims on multiple occasions. In October 2025, he referenced the test while criticizing members of Congress, describing it as an aptitude and cognitive assessment. He challenged Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jasmine Crockett to take the exam, suggesting they would not perform as well.
Trump appears to be referring to the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a screening tool used to identify potential signs of dementia or Alzheimer's disease. NBC News reported that he took the test during his first term as president.
Earlier this year, in January 2026, Trump posted another message celebrating his performance on the examination. "The White House Doctors have just reported that I am in 'PERFECT HEALTH,' and that I 'ACED' (Meaning, was correct on 100% of the questions asked!), for the third straight time, my Cognitive Examination," he wrote.
In that same post, he reiterated his position that candidates for president and vice president should be required to undergo cognitive testing, warning against allowing people he characterized as "STUPID" or "INCOMPETENT" to lead the nation.
