The Fast & Furious film franchise may be winding down, but the universe is expanding into television in a major way.

At the NBCUniversal Upfront Presentation in New York City on Monday, May 11, Vin Diesel took the stage to unveil plans for an ambitious television expansion. The actor revealed that four separate shows set within the Fast & Furious world are currently in development.

"Peacock is launching four shows in the Fast and the Furious universe," Diesel announced at the event. However, clarification came that only one of the four series is set up directly at Peacock, while the remaining three are being developed by Universal Television.

Diesel is serving as an executive producer on the projects, with Mike Daniels handling writing duties on the pilot for the first show. Speaking about the decision to move into television, Diesel explained the reasoning behind the expansion.

"As you all know, we are very precious about these movies but over the last decade, we've realized that the fans have wanted more, they wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories," he said during the presentation. "And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space."

The announcement comes as the film franchise continues its theatrical run, with the title of the 11th installment having been revealed earlier in the year.
