Inside Hannah Harper's Life: Meet Her Husband Devon and Their Three Sons

Hannah Harper has emerged as one of the final three contenders vying for the American Idol season 24 title, with many predicting she could take home the crown.
The 25-year-old artist has been candid throughout her journey on the show about balancing motherhood with her musical ambitions. She entered the competition performing her original composition "String Cheese," a deeply personal track exploring her experience with postpartum depression following the arrival of her third child.
Meeting Devon Mendenhall
Hannah tied the knot with Devon Mendenhall in April 2018 when she was just 18 years old. The couple's connection runs deep—they've been documenting their relationship on social media since 2017.
Devon's Instagram reflects his passion for the outdoors, with his profile describing himself as a "fishing addict." His feed frequently showcases fishing expeditions, many featuring his children alongside him. In one heartfelt caption, he wrote, "My prayers came true, the moment I met you."
His admiration for Hannah shines through in another post where he playfully warned followers: "WARNING. You may need to wear your eclipse glasses to look at this picture. Her smile is so bright it could burn your retina! Again please be careful looking at this beautiful lady. If looking at this picture it could cause blindness/severe eye pain/ or worst… in my case that same smile made me fall in love!!!"
A Family of Five
The couple shares three sons together. Their oldest boy, Jentry, arrived in April 2019, followed by two additional sons in subsequent years.
During Mother's Day 2026, Hannah found herself separated from her sons while competing on the show. The separation weighed heavily on her emotions. "Tonight, I'm extra emotional being away from my boys," she shared. "I'll be keeping the tissues close and counting down the hours until I can wrap my babies up in my arms again."
The Story Behind "String Cheese"
Hannah's audition song carries profound meaning rooted in her personal struggle. During her appearance on Idol, she explained the inspiration: "My youngest is 1 and shortly after he was born I had postpartum depression. I was sitting on my couch wallowing. Everybody wants to touch you. I didn't want to be touched. I was just having a pity party, praying that the Lord would calm my spirit. And my son kept coming up to me saying, 'Mama open this. Open my cheese.'"
She continued, "And I finally opened his cheese and when I did that God had put me in that place and where I was in my house was the biggest ministry I could have, and being a mom, so I gathered myself and I got up off the couch and I quit throwing a pity party and realized that was exactly what I wanted. I kind of kicked the postpartum depression in the butt, I said, 'I ain't doing it.' And I wrote this song called 'String Cheese.'"
