Hannah Einbinder Gets Emotional During 'Hacks' Series Finale Event

The cast of HBO's acclaimed comedy series Hacks gathered at the David Geffen Theater at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles on Tuesday night (May 26) to celebrate the show's final season ahead of the series finale's debut.

Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder, Robby Hoffman, Paul W. Downs, and Kaitlin Olson were joined by co-creators Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky at the "For Your Consideration" event for season five.

The evening took an unexpectedly emotional turn when Smart reflected on the finale's use of the Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand duet "Happy Days Are Here Again / Get Happy." Smart expressed her enthusiasm for the musical choice, noting the significance of featuring a duet rather than a solo performance.

"I was so excited because it's such an incredible piece of music. And it was perfect that it was not just that song, but that it was a duet. And it was a duet," Smart shared.

As Smart spoke, Einbinder became visibly moved, tears streaming down her face as she even jokingly collapsed to the floor during the moment.

Downs interjected with humor to address the situation, remarking that this emotional response had become commonplace during production of the final season. "She'll be okay. This happened a lot. Every day on the final season. This happened a lot. Ignore the woman on the floor!" he said.

Smart later quipped about Einbinder's display, asking with a laugh, "How brilliant was she in that scene just now?"

The Hacks series finale will premiere on HBO Max on Thursday, May 28 at 9pm ET.
