Lisa Kudrow Confirms 'The Comeback' Ends With Season 3, Calls It a "Trilogy"

'The Comeback' is coming to a close. Lisa Kudrow has firmly decided that the HBO series will not continue beyond its third season, which wraps up tonight, May 10.
The 63-year-old star, who plays Valerie Cherish, explained her reasoning to industry outlets. Given the show's unusual production schedule—with massive gaps separating each installment—Kudrow felt the time was right to bring the story to a definitive conclusion.
"I don't know if I'll want to do it again in 10 years, so let's be done, that way no one is asking what's next or whether we will even want to do more," she said. "The most respectful thing we can do for the audience and for the character is make it a three-part story. It's a trilogy, and this is the end."
The series debuted in 2005, returned for a second season in 2014, and came back once more in 2026—a pattern of returns separated by significant stretches of time. Rather than leave open the possibility of another revival years down the line, Kudrow opted to close the book entirely.
Co-creator Michael Patrick King shared his own sentiments about the decision, telling Variety, "We're beyond grateful and giddy that we got to actually do this again and again. And we really put everything we had into this one. And it's not a ploy."
The finale airs tonight on HBO at 10:30 pm ET.
